By long custom a visit to Guruvayur is finished here, at the Shiva temple a kilometre to the north. Quieter, older, and worth the short walk in the cool of the morning.
The temple's elephants live in the grounds of an old palace compound. Go early — the elephants are bathed in the morning and the heat later in the day is hard on everybody.
